The Stephens’ Kangaroo Rat (SKR) has been downlisted from ‘endangered’ to ‘threatened’ in the Federal Register! This change in status signals that the species is recovering through excellent land management practices. The SKR is a small but essential animal that plays a significant role in maintaining Southern California’s ecosystem.
The efforts undertaken by the Riverside County Habitat Conversation Agency (RCHCA) alongside Federal and State conservation partners over the last three decades have led to this momentous accomplishment. The City of Menifee’s leadership was also very involved in this endeavor and continues to collaborate with community partners to help manage and conserve open space lands within Western Riverside County! Congratulations to the RCHCA, federal, and state conversations partners on this milestone!
