Menifee to Enforce New Illegal Dumping Fines, Penalties

10-7 Dumping

Menifee, CA – The City of Menifee’s Code Enforcement Division will begin implementing new illegal dumping fines and penalties after receiving direction from the City Council at an Oct. 2 meeting. Fines will range from $1,000 for a first offense, $1,500 for a second offense and $3,000 or more for a third offense. Code Enforcement will also have the authority to impound a violator’s vehicle per California Vehicle Code (CVC 23112.7).  “In the last eight months, the City of Menifee has seen an increase in illegal dumping on our City streets and right of ways,” said Code Enforcement Director, Colin McNie. “Public Works has hauled away 7,260 cubic yards of household goods, trash, tires, couches, mattresses, refrigerators and construction materials from our City right of ways.”  “This issue is caused by individuals who are not obeying the rule of law,” said District 2 Councilmember, Matt Liesemeyer. “Ultimately, our residents are the one who suffer and I am very pleased to be moving forward with these fines and penalties that will hold the appropriate parties accountable.”  The Code Enforcement Division will also be working to establish a Community Action Team to work in partnership with neighborhood residents to rapidly address illegal dumping. Additionally, the Public Works Department is working on establishing a City-wide solar-powered surveillance camera network with highdefinition license plate recognition software to investigate illegal dumping cases.
