It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of former Planning Commissioner Earl Phillips. Mr. Phillips served on the City’s Planning Commission from 2013 until 2020, representing District 1.
A retired Navy Commander, environmental specialist, and lifelong learner, Mr. Phillips was the epitome of a public servant. While on the Planning Commission, Mr. Phillips was known for his generous and selfless attitude that was at the forefront of his service and actions. For seven years he worked inexhaustibly to serve Menifee with his daring leadership and the community has improved greatly as a result.
Former Councilmember Greg August appointed Mr. Phillips to the Menifee Planning Commission seven years ago. Recently, at the end of Mr. Phillips' term on the commission, Mr. August said he could "proudly and honestly say [he] made the best and wisest decision choosing Mr. Phillips for the role."
Menifee City Council also shared their appreciation for Mr. Phillips’ dedication to this community. “Commissioner Phillips was a trusted advisor, and served his city with professionalism. He took his position seriously and was very invested in the city’s development. His extensive knowledge, technical background, and detail-oriented nature were great assets to the Planning Commission. He spent hours poring over the reports and always came in prepared for meetings with such enthusiasm. His passion will be missed.” In addition to his work on the Planning Commission, Mr. Phillips was remembered for his kindness, generosity, and the love he had for had for his daughters, grandchildren, VFW, and others in the community.
We would like to express our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and the Menifee community that he loved so much. Mr. Phillips' dedication to Menifee will be remembered and appreciated.
